Mary Helen White (Castle, Williams, Culver)
August 20, 1955 to October 14, 2023
Born August 20, 1955 to Helen and Gerald Castle of Grand Junction Colorado. Mary spent most of her teenage years in Grand Junction living on the Redlands, attending Fruita Monument High School although she never graduated.
She married Walter Williams in 1972 in Grand Junction and soon moved to San Diego, California while Walter was serving in the United States Marine Corp. In August 1974, they welcomed William David (Willy) into this world. The trio moved back to Grand Junction in July 1975 and then welcomed a baby girl, Tracie Lynn in July 1976. Mary and Walt moved from place to place and after the fall of the oil and gas industry in the 1980's, they moved the 4 of them across the US to New York. They stayed a short time in Homer, New York and settled down in Cortland, New York. While living in New York, Mary and Walt mutually separated and ultimately, divorced in 1988. Mary made her way to Showlow, Arizona with her boyfriend Michael Culver, where Mary found out she was pregnant. Once reunited with Willy and Tracie, they decided to move back to Meeker, Colorado to be near her mom, Helen Hackett. Here, Mary attempted to have her baby, but due to many many complications, Mary was airlifted to St. Mary's hospital in Grand Junction, where she brought Jessie Mikal into this world in August 1988. On December 31, 1991 Mary and Michael Culver got married in Grand Junction. This was not the happy loving marriage Mary thought it would be, and soon after moving back to Fruita Colorado, Mary divorced Michael after a few years. She then met the man who changed her life forever, the love of her life, Denis White, while out looking for "treasures" at yard sales. After traveling around the US and seeing and experiencing many new things, Mary and Deny were married on December 10, 2002 on a pier in Biloxi, Mississippi. After traveling around and living in Mississippi, Golden Valley Arizona, Fruita Colorado, Mack Colorado and finally settling down in Topock, Arizona where they have lived for the last 9 years. Mary passed away suddenly at her home on October 14, 2023.
Mary had many different jobs in her life from working at the soda counter at Mesa Drug in Fruita, to driving a school bus, to working at not 1 but 2 state homes in her life. She worked at a couple Circle K's, waited tables at Evelyn's restaurant in Fruita, to being a receptionist at a body shop and a rehabilitation center. She was probably best known for her CNA work at several different facilities. No matter the job, or where life led her, she always worked! She always tried to make ends meet the best she knew how. If you came into her house and said you were hungry, she would feed you, if you needed some advice, she would give you her opinion. Everybody knew just how much her kids meant to her and as she started having Grand babies, it was obvious just how much they meant to her too.
Mary is survived by her true love and husband Denis White (Topock, AZ), Son, William Williams (Topock, AZ), Daughter, Tracie and Don Stadelman (Grand Junction), Son, Jessie and Amber Williams (Topock, AZ), Peggy White (Fruita), Walt Williams (Grand Junction). 16 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren, 3 dogs and 1 cat. Mary is preceded in death by her mom, Helen J Hackett, dad, Gerald W Castle, many aunts, uncles, Grand parents, cousins and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday October 27, 2023 at 11am at Life Community Church 2140 Broadway, Grand Junction Colorado, 81507. With lunch to follow.
