Dale Nelson

–

Dilworth, Minnesota

Dale “Spider” Nelson passed away April 1,2024, at home, under Hospice Care. He was born in Grinnell, IA in 1944 and raised on the family farm. He was a state high school championship wrestler, which he enjoyed immensely. After graduating high school, he went to the Universal Trade School in Omaha, NE. When he got his degree, he decided to venture out to California, but he wasn’t too thrilled to be that far from home. He later moved to Lake Winnibigoshish, near Bena, MN where he worked alongside his two half-brothers, Dick and Larry, who survives him. That is where he met his future boss, Roy, who offered him a job in Moorhead, MN. So, he moved to Moorhead, started work, joined the Army National Guard and continued his career for 44 yrs. In 1978, he met his future wife, Patty, at an archery shoot (preplanned set up by friends) and have been together ever since. They married in 1979. They bought property and built their own home on nights and weekends, after work. After35 yrs., they sold their home to spend more time “snowbirding” in Lake Havasu City, AZ, where they loved to be, making many friends along the way.
Dale is survived by his wife, Patty, his two half-brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews who he adored, as if they were his own. Passing before him were his parents,3 brothers and 1 sister. Spider had a great life. There wasn’t anything he didn’t want to try. Scuba diving in tropical locales and local lakes, archery and gun hunting, snowmobiling, ice-fishing, and flying. He definitely had a full lifetime of experiences and memories. Anyone who met him had a friend for life. He was a good man who cared deeply about others, and it showed, in how he treated people.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when he is brought back to Minnesota.
